Physical and mechanical characteristics of raw jute fibers, threads and diatons

The need for a “systemic” approach to reduce both carbon footprint and seismic vulnerability of the built environment is clearly evident nowadays. Therefore, use bio-based composites, gaining consensus as sustainable solution due their low environmental impact promising properties construction material. This paper investigates performance raw jute fiber threads in view possible thermal insulation structural reinforcement composite systems with inorganic matrices. Specifically, physical, chemical mechanical fibers, diatons are investigated. They show that they have potential be used In fact, water absorption has been almost similar, ranging between 1.83 2.50 g(water)/g(fiber), while specific fibers worsens sample size grows from diatons. Based on results reported present paper, further studies already under development aim assess actual response jute-reinforced Textile-Reinforced Mortars (TRM) technology upgrading existing masonry buildings.
